Revision of Membership Fees - January 2023

Published on Thursday, 24 November 2022.

Dear Member,

Thank you for your membership with The Property Ombudsman (TPO). As you know, the Ombudsman model for redress is now the preferred model for government, with Landlord and New Homes Ombudsman being proposed this year. For both agents and complainants, it offers benefits above standard ADR schemes, especially in the advice and support functions.

You will be aware that in November each year, in accordance with our General Membership Obligations, membership fees are reviewed. As you will know from this membership information, we do this in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whilst checking through our budgeting process, that this is sufficient to meet the full costs of the not-for-profit scheme to which you belong.

Like you, TPO is experiencing rising costs, and, in some instances, higher than the current rate of inflation. Whilst we have the flexibility to increase above the CPI we have worked hard to apply an increase which is broadly in line with the CPI. Fees will therefore increase by 10% across each type of membership and associated fees for renewals from 1 January 2023. At the point of budgeting the annual CPI was 9.9% and is now 11.1% as published this month. As an example, this equates to £24 per branch for our sales and lettings memberships.

We will publish the revised fees on the website, and, on this occasion, we wanted to contact you personally, as we understand the effect a price increase can have on our members, even those that only reflect the current inflationary pressures. As always, TPO strives to continue providing high quality dispute resolution through our Ombudsman service to our valued members, and consumers, who require our help whilst developing our service to serve you better.

We thank you for your understanding and continued support during this change. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 01722 335458 with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.
