TPO announces Winifred Robinson as Consumer Panellist at 2016 Conference

The Property Ombudsman (TPO) scheme is delighted to announce that BBC Radio 4 Presenter, Winifred Robinson, will be joining its national Conference on 12th October 2016 as a consumer panellist.

Winifred will join the already confirmed line-up of property professionals, to provide a consumer’s viewpoint in a live debate between the ‘Panel of Experts’, facilitated by Tim Wakelin.

Winifred started her BBC career in Manchester at North West Tonight, where she was Local Government and Social Affairs correspondent and a reporter for File on Four.

She left Manchester to report for the Today programme, where she won a bronze Sony for Reporter of the Year and became a regular presenter of the programme. She has also presented The World Today at the BBC World Service. In 2014 Winifred won a Gold Radio Academy Award for the Interview of the Year with Ralph Bulger whose son James was murdered by two boys aged 10.

In 2000, Winifred joined You and Yours, a programme which has built a reputation for investigative journalism. She also continues to report from some of the most deprived communities in the UK in documentaries for Radio 4.

Commenting on Winifred’s appointment to the panel, Gerry Fitzjohn, Chairman of TPO, said: “We are delighted to welcome Winifred to our panel. Her investigative journalism and work on one of the BBC’s flagship consumer affairs programmes makes her a great asset to the Conference panel, which already includes a number of industry leaders.”

Winifred Robinson added: “The price of property and the shortage of affordable housing is the biggest consumer story of our time. House prices continue to rise way above the rate of inflation and have locked a generation out of home ownership. At the same the internet has revolutionised the way homes are sold. The Property Ombudsman remains an important service for consumers and I’m really delighted to be part of this event.”

The Conference programme has been built around the needs of property agents with new speakers, a new housing panel debate and extended workshop sessions for sales and lettings to enable agents to interact with the Ombudsman and her team to review real-life cases to see how TPO Codes of Practice are used to resolve disputes.
