MembershipTPO Membership Benefits

This includes any of the following that are applicable to your business:

Residential sales
Estate agency services relating to the sale and/or purchase of residential freehold or long leasehold property. This includes residential property which forms part of a commercial building.

International sales
Applies to that part of the UK transaction that is conducted under UK law.

Residential Buying Agents

Applies to agents offering property buying services. Please note: This Code of Practice is effective from 1 January 2014.

Lettings
This includes lettings and managing agents.

Commercial sales and lettings
Applies to estate agency services, provided by a person or organisation in the United Kingdom for buying, selling or letting of premises for commercial use, including shops, offices, business space, industrial and warehouses.

Chattels
Applies to services provided in the UK in connection with the auctioning of antiques, general effects and personal property, furniture etc. NB auctions of residential and commercial property are covered by the relevant jurisdiction above.

Residential Property Buying Companies

Applies to firms who offer a 'quick' purchase of property directly from home owners. Please note: This Code of Practice is effective from 1 July 2014.

How much will Membership cost?

Membership costs £294 including VAT, per office.

Please note all branches trading under the same company or brand name are required to join. Head offices and administrative offices that do not deal directly with consumers need to register but will not be charged.

Registration Only

This applies to agents who provide estate agency services in relation to residential property who would like to register for the minimum legal requirement under the Consumers, Estate Agents and Redress Act 2007 whereby they will be following the Ombudsman's Guidance for Registered Agents and Statutory Redress Arrangements.

How much will Registration Only cost?

The cost of Registration only is £294 including VAT, per office.

Residential Leasehold ManagementTPO Membership Benefits

This applies to agents who manage blocks or multiple residential leasehold properties on behalf of the freeholder, head leaseholder or residents' management company. Please read the General Membership Obligations.

How much will Residential Leasehold Management cost?

Residential Leasehold Management is chargeable per company, not per office and the cost is £324 including VAT.

What will I need before applying for membership?

Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance
We will require a copy of your PI insurance schedule (normally 1-2 pages). Please ensure the limit of indemnity is no less than £100,000 and the excess is no more than £1000. If your excess is more than £1000 please ask your insurer to add TPO endorsement L1391 to your policy. If you are part of a firm of solicitors covered by PI insurance approved by the Law Society the endorsement is not necessary.

Please note Professional Indemnity insurance is not the same as Employers Liability or Public Liability insurance.

Proof of Identification
If you are able to supply a company registration number and/or VAT number no further identification will be required.

If you are unable to supply either of these we will require a copy of a recent utility bill or invoice addressed to the company, dated within the last three months, and a copy of the owner, principal or partner's driving licence or passport.

Step 2. Applying for membership

You can apply by downloading the application form to print and complete. Please post the form with the supporting documents and a cheque to the address stated on page 3 of the application form.

Alternatively, you can apply online where you will need the following:

  • Company registration number (if applicable)
  • A credit or debit card

The following scanned documents will be required in a pdf, tiff, jpg or png format:

  • Your Professional Indemnity insurance schedule (normally 1-2 pages)
  • A utility bill, dated within the last three months, (if applicable)
  • The owner, principal or partner's driving licence or passport, (if applicable)
